If you have purchased an eftpos terminal from us you will be getting a bill of $82.80 each year for software licensing and upgrading.
This is levied upon us by the importing agents who have to write special New Zealand software and keep it constantly upgraded.
You probably don’t notice it but sometimes when you start the terminal it will say “Downloading software” for a few seconds.
Those are the updates that you are paying for.
It’s all because Paymark and the banks demand higher and higher security levels in the payment stream.
As you can imagine, with billions of dollars pouring through the Paymark system, data security is in the ultra-high paranoia region. The bad guys are always looking for ways to crack the encryption code used to hide your information from them.
Back in the day, terminals had to be returned to base about once a year so that the software could be upgraded. That used to cost around $120. The present system is much less hassle and a lot cheaper.
